What is supervision?

Supervision allows an intern/resident, who is not yet licensed, to learn under the guidance of a qualified supervisor who is licensed and established in the field. As a supervisee, supervision will provide you with a supportive space to obtain clinical hours, develop further competencies, refine your clinical and diagnostic skills, conceptualize cases, consider various theoretical approaches to address client issues, identify ethical guidelines that must be taken into consideration, develop treatment plans, identify your own unique therapeutic style, and grow your confidence as a clinician.

Supervision is not a “top down approach” where your supervisor just tells you what to do. Instead, your supervisor will use various methods and questions to help you consider various perspectives and determine the best course of action to ensure your client’s well-being. Feedback will be provided on a regular basis and your supervisor will review your performance prior to your evaluation to give you opportunities for continued improvement and to ensure your continued success.
